Christmas

A cold winter's night.  A roaring Yuletide fire.

Mistletoe and holly hung around the home.

And a brightly lit tree as the center-piece of the holidays.

Sounds charming, doesn't it?

But did you know that these things and more have absolutely nothing to

do with the birth of Jesus Christ!?

Did you realize that they actually have everything to do with the winter solstice celebrations of paganism?

It's true!

Most people never realize that not only was Jesus not born on December 25th but that nearly every single christmas tradition comes from ancient pagan festivals celebrating the winter solstice and the re-birth of the sun.

This holiday is probably the most difficult for people to let go of since it holds so many memories.  However, the enemy (Satan) is a master at deception and nastalgia is one of his most powerful weapons.  It takes people back to a time in their lives that is most often wonderful in their minds, but the stark reality is that it was not as wonderful as they remember.

Nastalgia, thereby leads people to hold onto something that never really existed in the first place.  They then try and recapture that moment or event and in the process are slowly pulled away from the truth of God's Word.

I had a friend of mine say once that they did not want to hear the truth about Christmas because they "didn't want to be convicted"!  They actually realized that the holiday was probably not what they thought it was and displeased the Lord and they didn't want to hear about it because they loved it so much!!!  Purposeful ignorant bliss is what people want instead of the wonderful, freeing truth of God's holy Word!

People will quite often say that those who seek to keep the commandments of the LORD are in bondage, but I say to them, "Try not setting up your christmas tree or decorating your house this year".  The response is always the same - a resounding "NO WAY!"  You tell me who's in bondage.

If you'd like to watch them, there are several videos below, describing in detail the origins of Christmas.  They are from a History channel special entitled "Christmas Unwrapped" delving more into the pagan origins

of the holiday.  Enjoy!
